The X Factor-Live Show 4

By Ross Levy at 7:59 pm on November 2nd, 2009. Printer friendly version.

Having previously survived two sing-off’s the luck ran out this weekend for eighteen year old Rachel Adedeji in a horror filled halloween worth of The X Factor…

Last week shook up a shock for the remaining contestants, Miss Frank, tipped to be an achieving band this year, facing hot-favourite Danyl Johnson in the showdown and getting the boot from the competition, a lot earlier than previously expected. Now, with nine remaining it was time for all to get their act together for this week it was rock night, and some rocking performances were just what some needed.

The Saturday night performance show started with some consistently good performers, Joe McElderry of Cheryl’s boy’s category kicking things off with another acclaimed number, the singer this time rocking his way through Don’t Stop Believin’ by Journey. Dubbed two weeks ago by lead judge Simon Cowell as “Note Perfect,” Joe once again proved to be somehwhat a dark horse in the competition, proving he can have a go at anything put in his way.
This was followed by Welsh-singer Lucie Jones. Tipped at the judge’s house stage to be a real contender in this year’s battle to be crowned champion, Lucie failed to impress Simon last week yet changed his view completley with an “Avril Lavigne,” styled performance of Guns N’ Roses’s Sweet Child O’ Mine. Rattled by those comments last week, “Boring,” a word used to describe it, the teenager was delighted with a performance that perhaps stamped herself back in the judges’s good books.

Like mentioned, Danyl Johnson had a rough week last week being suprisingly dumped in the bottom two to sing again. Managing to get through, Danyl, who has been bathed in bad-press this week as much as to be “more hated than Hitler,” was keen to get his show back on the road and failed to dissapoint mentor Simon Cowell with his performance of Aerosmith’s I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing. The teacher, who has so far recieved mixed acclaim from all judges’s, was evidently startled following a tough week yet managed to get mentor Cowell on his feet, a good sign for the contestant.
Also fighting to stay in the show was then Lloyd Daniels. The heart-throb of the competition hadn’t recieved wonderful praise up to this weekend’s show and with his rendition of Katy Perry’s well known smash hit I Kissed A Girl, he sparked some controversy between the judge’s, Louis Walsh claiming it wasn’t really rock. None the less, the performance recieved much better comments then his big-band number did last week and the kid was back on track, some may have believed.

In last weeks press Simon Cowell spoke out against Stacey Solomon, next to hit the stage, claiming she hadn’t really done much in the three weeks that has passed in the competition. Adamant not to let that be the case she sung rock band Keane’s hit Somewhere Only We Know and un-doubtably showed much better performance skills than she may have done so previously. This being greeted very well by the judge’s and delighting the single Mum from Dagenham. As one of the many favourite’s in the competition Stacey has quite a bit of pressure following her in these live finals as did and does the next to perform, Jamie Archer. So far Jamie has been slashed a bit by Louis Walsh, the Irishman claiming he wasn’t that original, yet with a bit of a strong week for him being the case in this rock themed week many would have thought this performance to be his best yet. Singing Rocks by Primal Scream Jamie looked to get back to his usual, rocking ways, last week dissapointing him and as his performance came to an end the look on his face suggested he had pleased himself, even if he hadn’t pleased the voting public.

Rachel Adedeji was over the moon with her performance last week. Not only did it manage to keep her out of the bottom two for the first time in the series but it also brought in great praise from the judges’s. Simon Cowell thinking he should reconsider the eighteen year old’s chances in the competition. High on confidence she went for a rock classic, singing U2’s One. Although it wasn’t the most visual number to watch it brought a huge smile to mentor Dannii Minogue’s face, the mentor erupting in joy after she had sung.
Up next though was perhaps one of the most talked about X Factor contestants ever. Now named as Jedward by the Great British media the twins had managed to escape the wrath of the public vote for all three previous weeks so far despite facing gauntlet comments from all judge’s bar their mentor, Louis Walsh. With the newspapers this week dominated by the fact The X Factor house has been littered with fans wanting to see Jedward inparticular the marmite-like act too went for a rock classic, We Will Rock You being the next track that the two have tackled. The vocals of the twins have been the thing under most scrutiny on their time on The X Factor and this didn’t change this time around, the song so said killed by the panel. However, three weeks they had survived so far, many would hope their luck had ran out this time.

To close the show was the Over 25 act described as the “dark Horse in the competition,” by Louis Walsh. Olly Murs wowed the crowd with both his dancing and singing last week, rapturous applause following his swinging song and this week it was same again for Olly. With his rendition of The Beatles’s Come Together Olly was showered in praise from judge Dannii Minogue who said she “Adored,” the man and this was added to by yet another successful round of comments for the office worker from Essex.

The final nine had then performed, some acclaimed some not so, but 24 hours then ticked by for the contestants as they waited to hear their fate for the upcoming week…

With all but three acts making it through two next week’s Movie Night themed week John and Edward, Rachel and Lloyd were those three that were potentially having to sing again. Rachel would certainly not wish to perform again whilst most of Britain would be hoping for John and Edward’s hilarious run to come to an end. Once again though, Jedward went through to next weeks round leaving Rachel in the mix of things again and Lloyd, despite an illness, facing the sing-off.

Stop Crying Your Heart Out was the choice of Rachel, the Oasis song her choice this time round compared to her mentor choosing for her in her original show. This then was contended by the ill Lloyd singing Billy Preston’s well known hit You Are So Beautiful. That one performance was all the two acts could do for now it was time for the judge’s to make their decision as to who to send home.
Obviously backing her own act Dannii saved Rachel, this doubled in advantage by Louis’s choice to also send Lloyd home. However, Cheryl stuck by her Lloyd and it was down to Simon for the remaining vote. For not really being accepted as such by the public, Simon sent home Rachel meaning once more it was going to deadlock, back to the public vote, to see who would be heading home.

Sadly for Rachel, it wasn’t third time once again lucky and the lights were out. Lloyd progressed through to next week’s show, his Saturday piece nudging the vote in his direction and knocking what had been a very confident Rachel out the show.

Only eight now remain and with shocks and suprises coming thick and fast, what will happen in next week’s Live Show 5?

  1. ed in the US says:

I am disgusted with the merciless treatment of the John and Edward by judges.
They put them in the top 12 for ratings and knew their talent level when they did it.
What they have done is this invite 2 young naive well mannered gulible young boys to the show and bully them for the sake of money and ratings.
It is not their fault they are on stage it is the judges who have put them there and if they were your boys who are being made out to be so terrible for trying their hardest every week how would you feel?
This is like inviting 2 little kids to come to your house so you can pick on them and laugh at them for your own benefit… Im ashamed of the judges

Don't you people have any compassion for these boys?

ya know… i never heard of x-factor til AOL put the britney vid up of john and edward. Then i started reading all the bashing on these 2 kids..so i watched all the video diaries and interviews and read about them… and now.. i am fed up with the bashing these 2 guys are getting…they are funny nice and havent done anything but smile and have a good time and these kids are getting slammed ..

i just read about them being bullyied ..

    http://www.mirror.co.uk/…-21788231/

Now they are being bullyied by the press the show and the judges…for what? to increase ratings at the expense of these 2 kids..the boo's….the blaming of everything that goes wrong at the x-factor hous ..the cereal(my god can't the show afford to buy more cereal if this is what these kids eat) its all attempt to villify 2 boys who had no idea they were going to be the butt of a joke pulled by the judges on the public…. who is to blame here not the kids…
